Every year, Make-A-Wish Malaysia (MAWM) makes it its mission to grant the wishes of critically-ill children by raising funds via various channels, one of which is via its annual Wish Ball.
Each year, the theme is different but its Silent Auction and Live auctions are eagerly anticipated in which guests bid for sponsored items from both well-wishes, entrepreneurs and corporate plus the hospitality industry besides the selling of tables.
This year’s “Colours of Life” theme saw guests coming out dressed to the nines to do their bid for charity. Among them was Royal Patron of MAWM Tengku Zatashah’s special guest celebrity designer Alya Fham, daughter of famous actress Chingmy Yau who specially flew in from Hong Kong to be present for the Wish Ball 2024.
MAWM Chairman Datin Linda Ngiam and CEO Irene Tan both affirmed that the granting of wishes will continue strongly.
Among the items auctioned off this year was a red sports jersey which fetched approcimately RM10,000 while a lunch hosted by the MAWM Royal Patron Tengku Zatashah and the Crown Prince of Selangor at HRH’s palace in Klang was bidded at RM23,000 with a private tour of Istana Alam Shah in Klang, the Palace of the Sultan of Selangor.
Fham generously adopted a wish child’s wish at the event and when quizzed about her secret to her beauty, she said it was in being kind.
She shared Audrey Hepburn’s quote to illustrate further on the importance of being kind: “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the Knowledge that you are never alone.”
That was certainly a night where women empowerment and sisterhood cut across countries and borders in order to be united to grant the wishes of critically-ill children the world over. This was also apparent in the touching gesture of Make-A-Wish Korea sponsoring two iPhone 15 Pro Max to raise funds for its sister organisation in Make-A-Wish Malaysia of which Paparazzi360 emerged as one of the highest bidders for one of its iPhone Pro Max 15.
The night was still young as guests lingered on to the live performance by RonnieJupiter belting out medleys such as Abba hits and oldies.
