University of Malaya and Branding Association of Malaysia Sign Strategic MoU to Strengthen Branding & Industry Collaboration

Kuala Lumpur, 1 July 2025 – The University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia’s premier academic institution, and the Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM), the nation’s leading branding organization, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to initiate a strategic partnership in branding education, talent development, and academic-industry cooperation.

The MoU signing ceremony took place on 1 July 2025 (Tuesday) at Bilik Court, University of Malaya, located next to Dewan Tunku Canselor. The MoU was signed by Professor Dr. Hasniza Zaman Huri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) of UM, and Datin Winnie Loo, President of the Branding Association of Malaysia. The ceremony was witnessed by:
• Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Sri Devi Ravana, Director of the Centre for Integral Learning (CITRA), University of Malaya
• Dr. Serrene Leong, Director of Industry Network & Professional Development, University of Malaya
• Michelle Hah, Deputy President of BAM
• Datuk Eric Chong, Past President of BAM

This MoU outlines key areas of collaboration:
• Joint programs and activities in areas of mutual interest
• Opportunities for course development and branding-related content
• Internship and employment pathways for students with BAM members
• Community engagement and co-branded initiatives
• Exchange of knowledge, research, and branding insights

In her opening remarks, Datin Winnie Loo stated:

“This collaboration is more than a ceremonial signing — it’s a meaningful commitment to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Branding is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. Through this MoU, we hope to shape future-ready talents who understand the essence of impactful branding.”

Professor Dr. Hasniza Zaman Huri expressed her optimism about the academicindustry synergy:

“The University of Malaya is proud to partner with BAM. This MoU will enrich our academic offerings and prepare students to become adaptive, branding-savvy professionals. It reflects our ongoing effort to bring practical relevance into our academic ecosystem.”

While the MoU is non-binding, it serves as a foundational platform to explore longterm partnerships — especially in advancing branding innovation, cultivating industry-ready graduates, and co-developing thought leadership initiatives.

The event brought together academic leaders and branding practitioners, symbolizing a shared vision for a stronger, future-focused Malaysia.
