Building trust and a sense of belonging are values that reap in handsome dividends in the long run, asserts Francis Lau, Co-Founder and Senior Vice-President of Artmatrix Technology Sdn Bhd.

Applying heartfelt honesty and magnetism by being consistent, inclusive and kind to comrades in building an ever-growing office equipment empire, the journey alongside five partners has been fraught with ongoing energy, dedication, and overcoming challenges.

It is for this reason that hitting its milestone 20th anniversary this year has been exceedingly sweet as it has been a journey of having overcome arduous obstacles along the way.

In his opening address during Artmatrix’s 20th anniversary dinner, Lau touched upon the early challenges including a lack of capital and financial means. There was also a deficit in obtaining finance rental for the factory and to create new product designs besides ongoing difficulty in securing customers.

Acknowledging his wife’s sacrifice in quitting her high-ranking banking career in 2016 in order to take care of their three children and to enable him to focus on his career, Lau focussed his efforts on working an average of 14 to 16 hours daily to solicit for sales as well as managing projects and operations.

The difficulty was especially pronounced in the first year of the establishment. However, things eased along the way as the company managed to get a soft loan from one of its Indian customers with 60 to 90 days suppliers’ credit.

Breakthrough Point

The tipping point for the group came when they managed to secure the CIMB Bank HQ project at Menara Bumiputra Commerce in early 2009. According to him, the convergence of qualities such as unity of all shareholders, impeccable customer service, quality products and services are all paramount in creating its success story.

Having celebrated its 20th anniversary, its next milestone is to continue to tap into young talents to make its office equipment systems more appealing to the younger generation.

In addition to this, and in order to meet the current market demand, the goal is to continue to expand its export business while keeping its focus on being “An Employer of Choice” in the niche office equipment system business.

Honouring 20 Years of Excellence

Two decades of excellence has not gone unnoticed when it concerns Artmatrix – dedicated to the designing, manufacturing and marketing of system furniture for the local and international market based on project basis.

Its achievements too have not gone by unnoticed by the industry at large, with it being selected as a Brand Legend Awards (BLA) winner under the 20-year category presented by the Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM).

“This award is a profound affirmation of Artmatrix’s unwavering commitment to providing excellent products & services, sustainability, innovation and customer-centric excellence,” he affirmed.

He credited the acknowledgment of the Brand Legend Awards under the 20 years category as a celebration of the Artmatrix team’s “relentless dedication and hard work” which has positioned it as a trusted leader in the industry.

This acknowledgement he added, only serves to reinforce the company’s commitment to continually delivering exceptional value and quality of services to its stakeholders and shareholders.
